Welcome to the Breathe Well Initiative

Everyone deserves to breathe well.

The Breathe Well Initiative is working to improve chronic lung disease management in Sierra Leone, starting with COPD and Asthma, while researching their causes. A key focus is training local healthcare professionals to provide sustainable, high-quality community care.

Our pilot programme

Our pilot screening programme in May 2024 revealed that around 83% of patients reported experiencing at least one respiratory symptom. Sadly, many remain undiagnosed and untreated due to a lack of expertise, accurate diagnostic equipment, and the availability and affordability of medication. This programme has provided a crucial foundation for creating a facility where patients with respiratory symptoms can receive early diagnosis and preventative care.
